No one needs reminding of the crime challenges we face in our nation in general and in Johannesburg in particular. Our communities need, and deserve, the very best that can be provided to ensure a safer environment for all. As crime evolves, so too should crime combatting solutions with the help of advanced technology.
Vumacam is proud to join forces and partner with Future City Fourways (FCF) whose Anti-Grime Anti-Crime vision is on track to become the largest Area Improvement operation in South Africa and Africa.
“With public safety the main element of their “Anti-Grime Anti-Crime” pillar, Future City Fourways (FCF) are doing amazing work and we at Vumacam are excited to fast track the rollout of our infrastructure into Fourways covering some 25 intersections in Phase 1 along William Nicol, Witkoppen, Main Road and Cedar, according to FCF identified and prioritised zones” says Ricky Croock, Vumacam CEO.
Fourways will now become an integral and valuable component of Vumacam’s mission to connect all the suburbs of Johannesburg and deploy over 15 000 ultra High Tech crime fighting cameras across Johannesburg by the end of 2019. This will create the most advanced and extensive electronic anti-crime screen the city has ever had. And Fourways will be a part of it!
Future City Fourways believes firmly that this ultra-modern layer of proactive security to our Greater Fourways precinct and adjacent areas shall assist in making the entire area safer by enabling vetted monitoring service providers to view feeds to dispatch emergency services, law enforcement agencies as well as area security service providers to deal with suspicious activity, crimes and help those in need.
Says advocate Jean Berdou, Chairperson of Future City Fourways “before Vumacam, installing a fibre linked CCTV network across the Greater Fourways precinct would have been completely unaffordable for any privately funded initiative such as FCF. We are thrilled and honoured to finally have by far the technically best and most cost-efficient CCTV solution inclusive of License Plate Recognition (LPR) and state of the art leading diagnostic software for our Greater Fourways that our community could possibly have hoped for. This is because Vumacam operates on a pay per feed model and not on capital outlay. This also enables us to roll out our citywide community initiatives soon to be announced.
The cameras that will be installed will include a mix of LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) and overview monitoring cameras which will enable market-leading state of the art Intelligence surveillance software that can provide unusual behaviour detection, deep learning and post-event analysis together with systems that ultimately ensure control room monitors can provide quick, informed decisions on suspicious activity.
The list and locations of camera coverage of all the Greater Fourways intersections in Phase 1 along William Nicol range from the Highway to Steyn City, along Witkoppen from Main Road to Douglas Drive, Cedar from Witkoppen to Uranium and Main Road from Witkoppen to Fourways Boulevard totalling 25 intersections in all. All application processes are already at an advanced stage.
Future City Fourways (FCF) is also excited to announce that Vumacam will be drawing alongside and supporting the FCF/Hot 91.9 FM HOT SQUAD initiative. This project will considerably widen a ‘boots on the ground’ protection screen for our Johannesburg motoring community. Details will be announced in due course.
